Title: Don't Save Me

“I don’t need you to save me.” Snape turned to James and snarled at him as they were leaving the Headmaster’s office. “Do you honestly think I’d trust Black enough to believe him about where you all go?” He took two steps away and turned again, sharply. “I was prepared for the worst. Your assistance,” he sneered the word. “Was quite unnecessary.”

“It could have been disastrous.” James offered an explanation.

“Yes, so why bother saving me?”

“I um… “

“You weren’t, were you? Not as such anyway. You were saving your precious friend.” Snape emitted a bitter laugh. “He doesn’t need you to save him either. He has the headmaster for that.” He turned and stalked away. “They both do.”

“For God’s sake James. I don’t need you to save me.”

“We had it all under control.”

“What? Luring Snape to the shack? To meet a fully grown werewolf?” James looked from Remus to Sirius. Remus looked tired and annoyed. Sirius looked downright angry. “Are you insane?”

Sirius’ eyes narrowed. “Not even close.”

Remus sighed. Two days after the full moon and he was still tired. “Sirius. Settle. Maybe we should have told James.”

“He’d have done exactly the same thing. He doesn’t understand.”

“Understand what?” James was bewildered. It sounded like Remus and Sirius had actually planned this fiasco.

Sirius shook his head. “We were going to kill the bastard.”

James blanched and took a step backwards. “You were going to kill him?”

At a glance from Remus, Sirius stopped what he was about to say.
“He was beginning to snoop too much. He was getting too close to finding out about me.” Remus explained.

“Well, he knows now!”

“And whose fault is that?” Sirius muttered. “Honestly James, do you think I’d purposely endanger Rem? You must think I’m a fucking moron.”

“You do do some stupid things sometimes.” James muttered belligerently.

Remus closed his eyes as he felt Sirius tense next to him. He put his hand on Sirius’ arm and frowned. “James…” he shook his head. “You have no idea about us.”

“What’s to know?” James snapped. “I’ve known you for years. I’ve known Sirius since we were five. I think I know pretty much all there is.”

Sirius and Remus exchanged a look and Sirius laughed.
James shivered.
It was not a nice laugh.
For the first time in his life he was wary of Sirius.

“You don’t know anything.”

“Why don’t you tell me?” James spoke with more bravado than he felt. He wasn’t sure he wanted to know.

“Come on James. I’m a dark creature. Sirius’ heritage is dark. Why fight it? Who wants Snape around?”

“Besides…” Sirius added, his voice smooth with a sharp edge. “I don’t like the way he’s been watching Remus.”

James frowned. “What way? Why…?”

“Snivellus wants him.”

James laughed. “So Snivvy’s a faggot. Doesn’t surprise me.” His laughter died as he found neither Sirius nor Remus were laughing. “What?”

“Remus is mine.”

At any other time, Sirius would have laughed at the look on James’ face. He resembled a surprised Diricawl. “What?”

“Let’s show him.” Remus murmured.

Sirius gave James a slow smile and wondered what he’d make of this piece of information on top of the other. He closed the small gap between him and Remus and turned to face the other boy. Their tongues met a split second before their lips did.

James heard a growl and an answering groan.
As he watched, one of Remus’ hands came up to tangle in Sirius’ hair and one of Sirius’ hands slid around the back of Remus’ neck.
“Oh fuck…”

“Not for your amusement, but yes.” Remus looked at James over Sirius’ shoulder, the latter of whom was intent on devouring his boyfriend’s neck. “I’m his, he’s mine. And Merlin help anyone who thinks they can change it.” Remus gave another soft growl as Sirius bit. “That means you too James.” Remus spoke to a retreating back, but he knew James had heard and understood.
